Animal farm, comparsion of media

Please do a short, two paragraph review on the two medias that present the story of ANIMAL FARM, the book and the animated movie. Which do you think is more effective and why, what elements of each, book and movie do you think are good nor bad for a younger audience. Try to construct sentences that use comparison.

I think both the movie and the book were effective and both helped me understand the meaning of the story. However, they both have their flaws and sometime one explains something better than the other one does.

I think the book is nice and helpful because it gives you, the reader, a chance to visualize the characters ; and play a ''video'' inside your head. As for the movie,it shows you how the characters look and obviously you can't make a "video" inside your head, of course you could be blind. The book, is also nice because you can keep reading it over and over again, if you don't understand it.I don't know why you would want to read more... but any ways. What I like the most about books is, you learn more about the characters, their background, where they live etc... Another reason is, you can read about the characters thoughts, but in a movie it is rare when you can hear what the person is thinking.

Degas-Impressionist

Birth date and place.1834- Edgar Degas was born on July 19Th, in Paris
Load a self portrait of Degas.

He painted history painting what does that mean?
History painting is the painting of scenes with narrative content from classical history, Christian history, and mythology, as well as depicting the historical events of the near past. These include paintings with religious, mythological, historical, literary, or allegorical subjects--they embodied some interpretation of life or conveyed a moral or intellectual message. The historical events chosen would be iconographic, not only depicting important events, but ones of particular significance to the painter's society, as for instance, the signing of the declaration of independence in American history painting. The event, if suitable, does not need to have actually occurred, and artists have frequently taken great liberties with historical facts in order to portray the message desired.

Define pastel:Pastel is an art medium in the form of a stick, consisting of pure powdered pigment and a binder. The pigments used in pastels are the same as those used to produce all colored art media, including oil paints; the binder is of a neutral hue and low saturation.

Made of :

Dry pastels have historically used binders such as gum Arabic, gum tragacanth. Methyl cellulose was introduced as a binder in the twentieth century. Often a chalk or gypsum component is present. They are available in varying degrees of hardness, the softer varieties being wrapped in paper.

Dry pastel media can be subdivided as follows:

Soft pastels: This is the most widely used form of pastel. The sticks have a higher portion of pigment and less binder, resulting in brighter colors. The drawing can be readily smudged and blended, but it results in a higher proportion of dust. Drawings made with soft pastels require a fixative to prevent smudging.
Hard pastels: These have a higher portion of binder and less pigment, producing a sharp drawing material that is useful for fine details. These can be used with other pastels for drawing outlines and adding accents. However the colors are less brilliant than with soft pastels.
Pastel pencils: These are pencils with a pastel lead. They are useful for adding fine details.
In addition, pastels using a different approach to manufacture have been developed:

Oil pastels: These have a soft, buttery consistency and intense colors. They are slightly more difficult to blend than soft pastels, but do not require a fixative.
Water-soluble pastels: These are similar to soft pastels, but contain a water-soluble component, such as glycol. This allows the colors to be thinned out using a water wash.
There has been some debate within art societies as to what exactly counts as a pastel. The Pastel Society within the UK (the oldest pastel society) states the following are acceptable media for its exhibitions: "Pastels, including Oil pastel, Charcoal, Pencil, Conté, Sanguine, or any dry media". The emphasis appears to be on "dry media" but the debate continues.
(from wikipedia)

He melted the pastel, or boiled them and painted with them. This allowed him to layer.

he became friends with many of the dancers. he collected old master paintings. Manet died and other friends died and effected him. Gauguin didn't like Degas. They did not trust him to organize the exhibition. He painted nudes, and these received acclaim. Find a nude and up load.

Degas did not like Monet, thinking his art too decorative.

His later work focused on only women, he did not show their faces
. He thought that his paintings were cruel, why? especially the nude.I don't really know but my guess is, is because his mother die when he was so young. So he never really had a female influence. Therefore he was scary, afraid and shy of women. But his evident intelligence earned him a scholarship to the University of Tübingen to study for the Lutheran ministry.Kepler's family was Lutheran. " In 1609 he published Astronomia Nova, delineating his discoveries, which are now called Kepler's first two laws of planetary motion. And what is just as important about this work, "it is the first published account wherein a scientist documents how he has coped with the multitude of imperfect data to forge a theory of surpassing accuracy" (O. Gingerich in foreword to Johannes Kepler New Astronomy translated by W. Donahue, Cambridge Univ Press, 1992), a fundamental law of nature. Today we call this the scientific method."from;Nasa gov

"His wife and two sons had recently died. He remarried happily, but had many personal and financial troubles. Book report Jonathan Livingston Seagull, a spiritual classic

Title:Jonathan Livingston Seagull
Author:Richard Bach
when written:1970
up load an image:

try to find a you tube video of the song that was written for this book Change Player Size Watch this video in a new window Neil Diamond Jonathan Livingston Seagull , listen to it please

This book is considered a spiritual classic, what do you think that means and why? Because it shows people that you should not follow "the flock". It makes you think how you should be like, and except how your are and not change for someone else. You should not change your self just so you can fit in. In the book it talks about love, he loved even those who rejected him. It encourages you to be different and to take risks even if it means becoming an outcast.

Write three paragraphs about the book, first what you thought of it, 2 ND what was the author trying to say about people compared to the behavior that he wrote about birds and last tell Little about his friends chiang and Fletcher Lynd Seagull.

I thought that the book was hard to follow at the beginning.Later on I understood the book a lot better. In some parts of the book, I had to reread it more than once. When I understood the book I ended up liking it. The book probably effected me more than I know. It gave me courage to be different.

Because Jonathan Livingston wanted to learn how to really fly and because he thought there was more to life than just eating. He was made an outcast and made fun of. An example that happened to me is, I like to wear long colorful sucks with shorts.I was called names and teased, but did that stop me from wearing them no cause I loved them they made me feel good. Like Jonathan Livingston liked to fly. We both did not give in to peer pressure.

In the beginning Jonathan Livingston had no friends, he was an out cast but when he meet Chiang,Chiang taught him everything that he knew. One day Chiang disappeared into a bright light leaving john with four words " Keep looking for love". Jonathan taught the younger birds that there s more to life. Some point in time Jonathan wanted to go back to help the birds that so blinded to not listen to what he was trying to teach them. So when he went back he meet a bird named Fletcher. Jonathan taught Fletcher a lot but the time came when John had to go and help other birds just like Fletcher. So john left and Fletcher instructed other young birds. Fletcher speed the light of knowledge.

Some suggestions for you, remember that he did not conform, and became an outcast, later he that he is " a one in a million bird" he is unique and unlike others, he follows the path of The outcast-the journey- the mentor-and the return to teach others, this might be useful to include. Remember how he wants to bring others to learn and experience what he has, do you think that this is something most people want to do when they learn and go beyond conformity?

Social commentary, philospohy

Read Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus The New York Sun - 1897

Goal is to learn how to write commentary which includes opinion, insight, analysis, interpretation, inference, personal response , thoughts, explanation. each question should have at least four to five sentences. A paragraph of thought.

How did reading this make you feel?

What does this line mean to you in context to the writting?
"The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see."

I think it means seeing isn't really believing, believing is seeing. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not there. Love, generosity and devotion is real but you can't see it dose that mean it is fake No! The most real things in life you cant see.
Coment on this line
Only faith, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond.

Bill Nye - Atomosphere

Define Atmosphere: An atmosphere (from Greek ἀτμός - atmos "vapor" and σφαῖρα - sphaira "sphere") is a layer of gases that may surround a material body of sufficient mass, by the gravity of the body, and are retained for a longer duration if gravity is high and the atmosphere's temperature is low.

Some facts about it.

  1. Is thick enough to breath but but to thin so we can not swim or float in it.

  2. Sometimes called ocean of air

  3. We live on the bottom of it

  4. It's like a blanket

  5. Protects the earth from menders and comets

  6. It is where the clouds and rain come from

  7. There is a lot of air it about 5 and a half million billion tons

  8. It is very thin but heavy

  9. It has 5 layers

The 5 layers of the Atmosphere

1.Troposphere-

  • Is the closest to the Earth

  • Makes rain, snow, wind and all the weather

  • Is where we live

2.Statosphere-

  • Takes heat from the sun

  • Turns oxygen into ozone

  • Protects us from UV

  • Definition of UV:ultraviolet: radiation lying in the ultraviolet range; wave lengths shorter than light but longer than X rays (wordnetweb.com)

  • The ozone layer protects us from UV light

3. Mesosphere-

  • Cold

  • in the middle

  • melts comets and menders

  • Strong winds

4.Thermosphere-

  • Thin

  • protects us from gamma rays

  • Definition of Gama rays: gamma radiation. A very high energy form of electromagnetic radiation, typically with wavelengths.(schools.look4.net)
(of Radiation): Electromagnetic radiation of high photon energy originating in atomic nuclei and accompanying many nuclear reactions (eg, fission, radioactivity, and neutron capture). .(dtra.com)

5. Exosphere-

  • little atoms

Presser

* The lower the presser the higher the altitude and the higher presser the lower altitude.

* The lower the altitude the higher the presser and the higher the altitude the lower the presser.

* Example: Why is it colder on a Mountain than it is in the city? because the Mountain is higher than the city, and the closer you get to the Mesosphere the colder it gets. The higher you get the less air there is.The city is low to the ground and is sounded by air the air acts like many blackest.

THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT

  • Definion of the greenhouse effect:warming that results when solar radiation is trapped by the atmosphere; caused by atmospheric gases that allow sunshine to pass through but absorb heat that is radiated back from the warmed surface of the earth. (wordnetweb.com)

  • When the atomsphere keeps the earth warm.

  • Without the atomsphere the world would blow-up

  • just joking

  • it would be really cold at night and really hot during the day

  • The atomsphere keeps every thing even and nice
